billy news round report

Newcastle United have moved off the bottom of the Premier League after beating Aston Villa 2-0 at home.

Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins bagged both goals for the Magpies, although Villa perhaps should have been in front before he opened the scoring.

Villa's Martin Laursen hit the post with a header and Gabriel Agbonlahor missed a really good chance.

But after half-time Newcastle upped their game and took a deserved lead after 60 minutes.

And there was time before the end of the match for Michael Owen to step onto the pitch as he recovers from injury.

Although it's not clear how much good coming on in the 90th minute would have done him!
